Revive outdoor areas

WITH summer on the horizon, now is an opportune time to finish those landscaping jobs left over from last summer or to start that new project to revive your outdoor area.

Here are some tips to help get you inspired:

- Retaining walls can create a traditional veggie patch or raised low-maintenance, waterwise garden bed.

- When choosing colours for your paving, remember that light pavers enlarge an area and darker colours make it appear smaller.

- Think about the pattern for your paving – make sure it reflects your existing garden design. And for the ultimate, outdoor retreat, why not add a water feature or fishpond.

- Fixed edging creates the strength in your path or driveway, preventing pavers coming loose and spreading.

- Create different paths in your garden using clay pavers to separate areas and make your garden appear bigger. It will also reduce the amount of dirt coming into your home.

- Choose a paver similar in colour to the adjacent interior flooring, to create an extension of your indoor living areas.

- Use clay pavers which are designed to withstand vehicle weight and also add a curve towards the front of your house to enhance the façade of your home.

- For a waterwise approach to your garden, use natural, low-maintenance and 100 per cent recyclable clay pavers – they won’t fade and will last more than a lifetime with very little attention.

- Try do-it-yourself paving. All you need is a couple of metal runners, a screeding bar, rubber mallet and gardening gloves.
