MORE than 550 swimmers competed in the Swanbourne Nedlands Surf Lifesaving Club’s 25th annual Cottesloe to Swanbourne Ocean Classic Swim Thru last Saturday.
It was one of the biggest turn-outs in the event’s history.
Swimmers were greeted with mild weather and good swimming conditions, helping winner Benjamin Hewitt cross the line in a close finish just 23 minutes and 28 seconds after the starting gun sounded.
Heidi Gan was the first woman across the finish line in 24m 38s.
The 2.2km annual swim that started in 1986 has attracted swimmers from all age groups and abilities since its inception.
This year, the club held a 2km Dash for Cash beach run before the swim.
