THERE was mayhem in Mandurah on the weekend after two out-of-control parties created havoc for police and residents.
The riot police and a police helicopter were called out to a party in Dawesville on Friday night after reports of about 60 underage people blocking a road.
On Saturday night, shards of glass cut a police officer’s face when a bottle was thrown through a police vehicle window at a party in Mandurah.
Police spokeswoman Sergeant Julie Hansen said police were called to a 16th birthday party in Salmon Gums Lane on Friday about 9pm because gatecrashers were causing problems.
She said the crowd swelled to more than 100 people and police waited until the riot police arrived. The crowd then dispersed.
“They created mayhem in their wake,” Sgt Hansen said. “Bricks and tiles were thrown, there was a lot of damage... at least one resident had a window smashed.”
Several juveniles were charged, including a youth who allegedly pointed a laser at the helicopter. Police were also called to a 20th birthday party at the CWA Hall in Cooper Street on Saturday night at 9.50pm after gatecrashers “stirred up the scene”.
Sgt Hansen said when police attended, there were about 200 to 300 people.
Police were pelted with glass bottles and one shattered the passenger window of a police car. An officer was treated at Peel Health Campus but his injuries were not serious.
Police suspect some party-goers went on a rampage through the central business district. A window at Eagles Pizza was smashed and there was damage to the Spur restaurant.
CWA Mandurah branch president Barbara Kelly said the party was booked as a combined celebration for a 20-year-old and 70-year-old.
She said there was a maximum limit of 70 people at the hall.
Inquiries are continuing.
