FORMER West Coast Eagles captain Ben Cousins is back in Perth after being arrested on a serious drugs charge in Esperance.

The Brownlow medallist was charged with one count of possessing a prohibited drug (methylamphetamine) with intent to sell or supply.

Cousins was arrested at Esperance Airport on Tuesday night and police will allege the drugs were hidden in his rectum.

He was released on bail but allegedly breached his bail conditions and was re-arrested and appeared in court yesterday.

Cousins arrived back in Perth last night but did not want to comment to the waiting media.

It is believed he had been attending a rehabilitation clinic in Esperance.

Cousins will appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on Monday and must report to police to Scarborough police three times a week.
