MELVILLE-Cockburn Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) president Tony Romano has welcomed the appointment of WA Small Business Commissioner David Eaton, saying the newly created role should ease the frustration of local business owners in dealing with disputes

Mr Eaton’s role will involve facilitating an alternative dispute resolution service as a preventative measure for business disputes that may otherwise end up in lengthy and costly battles through the courts or the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT).

Mr Romano said the Commissioner would also facilitate education for small business tenants and lessees to better understand contracts before signing.

“Business owners will benefit from this appointment as they will be in a position to seek better advice prior to entering into lease agreements and if there is a dispute then the Commissioner can review this and avoid what is often a long and costly experience for small business owners,” he said.

Mr Eaton said he was pleased to take on the role at a time of growth and expansion and said he was looking forward to building strong networks with business and industry organisations.
