A restaurant that truly lives up to its name is Real Flavour of India in East Victoria Park.
The popular restaurants along the Albany Highway strip feature cuisines from all over the world, but for those after the “wow factor” in the form of authentic, mouth-watering Indian food should try the dishes on offer at Real Flavour of India.
Owner Sushil Kumar has more than 28 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, while his manager and chef Vikram Thakur (pictured), who is from just outside New Delhi, started cooking when he was 17.
Mr Thakur has combined his knowledge of traditional Indian food with the experience he has gained working under top chefs in more than 21 countries, from Italy and France to Singapore and Thailand.
The results are great flavours, impeccable presentation and dishes that have been created after years of listening to what customers like and experimenting with different ingredients.
Part of Mr Thakur’s role at Real Flavour of India is to impart his extensive knowledge to the team of chefs, many of whom have also worked in five-star restaurants and hotels around the world.
On the menu, customers will find balti curries, vindaloos, masalas, tandoors, dosas, thalis, naans, rotis, briyanis and more.
Mr Thakur prepares a variety of dishes from all regions of his homeland, but the restaurant’s signature dish is the palak patta chat. This is spinach leaves dipped in chickpea batter and deep-fried until crispy. It is then served with yoghurt, chickpeas and diced potatoes, and is topped with date and tamarind chutney.
Mr Thakur said the family-friendly restaurant was happy to host small functions and the staff would even offer cooking tips.
